Oman’s Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology (MTCIT) has officially taken a major step toward positioning the Sultanate as a regional focal point for digital entertainment by launching an open investment window for a premier gaming industry hub. Announced via the ministry's Internal Investment Committee, the initiative actively calls upon local companies and private investors to submit Expressions of Interest (EoI) for the comprehensive development, management, and long-term operation of the site. By explicitly targeting firms that specialize in competitive e-sports, immersive gaming technologies, and high-fidelity digital game production, the ministry is paving the way for a highly integrated creative ecosystem.
The envisioned gaming hub is designed to serve as an interactive, multi-disciplinary platform where independent game developers, professional e-sports organizations, technology providers, and venture capitalists can seamlessly collaborate and uncover new commercial opportunities. To ensure a highly qualified, specialized operator steers the project, the MTCIT has outlined clear documentation criteria. Interested private groups must provide a formal letter requesting participation in the EoI process paired with a copy of their valid commercial registration certificate, with all formal digital files routed to the ministry's investment department under a strict application deadline of August 2.
This strategic ecosystem expansion aligns directly with the digital economy diversification pillars of Oman Vision 2040, looking to transform creative technology hobbies into high-yield corporate professions. Beyond establishing a dedicated physical zone for game studios, the MTCIT has been systematically rolling out supportive training initiatives—such as the recent 24-week Video Game Development Bootcamp launched under its Makeen program in collaboration with global game-engine giant Unity Technologies—to nurture a competitive local talent pool. Ultimately, by creating this hub, the Sultanate aims to accelerate local digital startup creation, secure high-value technology investments, and provide Omani youth with sustainable employment opportunities in one of the world's fastest-growing creative sectors.
