Oman Targets RO25.4 Million Investment to Build Integrated Aviation Industry

Oman Outlines RO25.4 Million Aviation Sector Investment Targets

The Sultanate of Oman is targeting strategic investments totaling RO25.4 million ($66 million) to build an integrated national aviation industry. Spearheaded under the oversight of the Civil Aviation Authority, the comprehensive investment plan encompasses aircraft maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) operations, specialized engineering training, and aviation component manufacturing. By establishing a robust industrial foundation, the Sultanate aims to transition from reliance on imported aerospace services toward operating as a self-sufficient and competitive regional aerospace hub.

Strategic Industrial Partnerships with International MRO Leaders

Central to driving this industrial initiative is a strategic partnership formed between Indonesia's PT Garuda Maintenance Facility AeroAsia (GMF AeroAsia) and domestic operator MACH Aerospace International. Leveraging GMF AeroAsia’s extensive global maintenance background alongside MACH Aerospace’s local infrastructure creates a strong framework for complex aircraft servicing. The collaborative venture focuses on developing high-precision maintenance facilities, optimizing fleet servicing turnaround times, and establishing specialized component fabrication setups inside national industrial zones.

Capital Allocation and Manufacturing Infrastructure Focus

Preliminary project assessments indicate that a major portion of the targeted financial capital will be allocated directly toward localized manufacturing capabilities. Approximately RO12.6 million ($33 million) is earmarked specifically for aircraft structural manufacturing facilities designed to support regional fleet demands. Additional investment capital will be directed into auxiliary industrial supply chains, advanced testing laboratories, and specialized technical training academies to expand total operational capacity over time.

Aligning Human Capital Development with Oman Vision 2040

Developing local technical expertise forms a core pillar of the national aviation transformation framework. The strategic agreements incorporate comprehensive engineering training programs designed to upskill Omani technicians and aerospace professionals. In alignment with the broader economic objectives of Oman Vision 2040, generating high-value skilled employment opportunities ensures national cadres remain central to managing advanced MRO operations, high-tech manufacturing, and specialized aerospace engineering systems.

Elevating the Sultanate’s Regional Aerospace Standing

Ultimately, the RO25.4 million investment plan marks a decisive milestone in Oman’s long-term economic diversification strategy. Transitioning toward localized manufacturing, heavy maintenance, and specialized engineering training strengthens non-oil industrial output while enhancing logistics connectivity across international corridors. As implementation progresses under the Civil Aviation Authority, establishing an end-to-end aerospace ecosystem positions the Sultanate as a vital supplier and service hub for the broader aviation sector.
