The Royal Hospital just upgraded its National Oncology Centre with the SOMATOM go.Open Pro CT, a high tech scanner designed to make radiotherapy planning much more accurate.
What makes this system stand out is its practical design; it features a wide 85 cm opening and a flat table that mimics the actual treatment setup, so patients can be positioned perfectly from the start. It also uses 4D-CT technology to track how tumors move as a patient breathes, allowing doctors to hit moving targets with pinpoint precision. Best of all, it manages to deliver these high-quality images using lower radiation doses.
Hospital officials are calling this a strategic move to bring their services in line with international standards, ultimately making treatment more efficient and much easier on the patients.
