Nokia Launches Global AI R&D Hub in Riyadh
Nokia has officially opened a new research and development (R&D) centre in Riyadh dedicated to creating AI-powered network automation software. The state-of-the-art facility will engineer advanced software solutions that enable communications networks to self-configure, self-heal, optimize performance, and drastically lower energy consumption with greater operational autonomy. Serving both domestic and international markets, the Riyadh hub will contribute Saudi-developed software directly to global telecom ecosystems.

The new Riyadh facility will specialize in key network architecture domains, including Service Management and Orchestration (SMO), Self-Organising Networks (SON), Autopilot systems, and specialized rApps. Engineering teams will design AI-driven capabilities for enterprise clients and communications service providers throughout Saudi Arabia while exploring early AI-native 6G technology frameworks. These technical capabilities will allow networks to respond dynamically to fluctuating traffic demands and operational environments.

The launch fulfills a strategic agreement established between His Excellency the Minister of Communications and Information Technology of Saudi Arabia and Nokia President and CEO Justin Hotard.
