Oman Air and Finnair Sign Strategic Codeshare Partnership
Oman Air has officially signed a new codeshare agreement with Finnish flag carrier Finnair, significantly expanding travel options between Oman, Finland, and Australia. Marking Oman Air's first major bilateral codeshare partnership since joining the oneworld global airline alliance in June 2025, the strategic agreement enables seamless single-ticket itineraries, unified baggage handling, and reciprocal frequent flyer privileges across both carriers' networks. The initiative directly supports Oman’s national efforts to enhance international aviation links and position Muscat as a key regional transit hub.
Expanding European Flight Connections via Key Gateway Hubs
Under the newly established arrangement, Oman Air passengers gain direct access to Helsinki Airport (HEL) via London Heathrow (LHR), where Oman Air operates 11 weekly flights from its hub at Muscat International Airport. Additionally, the codeshare framework encompasses Finnair-operated routes connecting Helsinki to major European cities, including Paris, Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Munich, Zurich, Milan, and Rome. By streamlining transfers through established European gateways, the partnership simplifies travel for both leisure tourists and business executives traveling between the Nordics, Continental Europe, and the Middle East.
Enhancing Connectivity to Australian Destinations via Bangkok
Beyond European routes, the agreement significantly boosts travel options connecting the Sultanate with Australia. Oman Air passengers can now connect smoothly to Finnair flights bound for Melbourne via Bangkok, leveraging Oman Air’s twice-daily flight schedule between Muscat and the Thai capital. This intercontinental link provides travelers with streamlined scheduling and single-ticket booking convenience across long-haul journeys spanning the Middle East, Southeast Asia, and Australasia.
Leveraging the oneworld Alliance Framework for Passenger Benefits
Executive leadership at Oman Air emphasized that partnering with Finnair represents a critical milestone in maximizing the commercial benefits of its oneworld alliance membership. Passengers flying on codeshare routes will enjoy integrated frequent flyer perks—including earning and redeeming reward points, priority check-in, lounge access, and streamlined luggage transfers. The joint commercial framework allows both airlines to optimize passenger load factors while offering flexible schedule combinations across high-density intercontinental travel corridors.
Strengthening Oman’s Position as an International Aviation Gateway
Ultimately, the codeshare pact between Oman Air and Finnair advances the strategic aviation and tourism goals set forth under Oman Vision 2040. Expanding direct codeshare connectivity to the Nordic region and Australia reinforces Muscat's status as an accessible global travel corridor. As both airlines continue to align operational schedules, the enhanced partnership will drive international visitor arrivals to the Sultanate and provide Omani travelers with expanded reach across global destinations.
